WOMEN OF WORTH: HELPING ABUSED WOMEN IN TOWNSHIPS

Domestic violence and abuse towards women is increasing in South Africa’s townships.
Government institutions are overwhelmed and waiting lists are too long to provide the help required. In the townships in Hangberg, Hout Bay, there are no government institutions. Access to social services is available via a far way local authority and women from the townships can’t afford the journey to the drop-in centre. They aren’t able to help themselves.
We help these women. We become their local drop-in centre and offer a safe space where they can confide in us and take tangible action against violence.
Woman of Worth was created by us – Liezl Surname, Jacobus Mathews and Romeo Nazzari. We offer a local safe space for women from townships.
HelpingSoulswas able to launch this project in 2022 thanks to generous donations and setup the institution and necessary infrastructure using the contributions. We’ve already saved eleven mothers and their children from the streets and their abusers-and we’re not stopping there.
